2011 Region 1 OVBS Teachers’ Training Camp
North East American Diocese Region 1 OVBS Teachers’ Training Camp was held at St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Linden, NJ on June 4, 2011. Four Priests and
fifty teachers from 8 churches from New York and New Jersey participated in this
Training Camp. The camp started with an Opening Prayer by Rev. Dr. C. C. Mathews,
Sts. Baselios & Gregorios Orthodox Church, New Brunswick, NJ. OVBS Director, Rev. Fr.
Gregory Varghese introduced and explained the significance of the theme of OVBS
2011 from Ephesians 6:1 "Children, Obey your parents in the Lord, for this is
right.” Sunday School Director Rev. Dr. Raju Varghese taught the "Catholicate
Anthem" and also narrated different teaching methods for Sunday school as well
as OVBS classes. Area 3 Coordinator Mrs. Aju Tharian conducted the Model Class
based on one of the OVBS lessons and Mrs.Sara Varghese, Sunday school Vice
Principal, St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, Clifton, NJ displayed different Art & craft ideas.
Mr. Abey K. Tharian, Principal, St. Stephen's Orthodox Church, Bergenfield, NJ demonstrated
interesting games and provided numerous ice breaker tips for VBS teachers.
Sunday School Secretary Benny Varghese and Talent Show coordinator Mathai Chacko
were also present and talked during the meeting. Rev. Fr. Sunny Joseph, Vicar of
St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Linden, NJ also addressed the gathering. The music team from
St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Linden, NJ led the VBS song session. The meeting ended with vote
of thanks by Ms. Pincy Jacob, followed by noon prayer and delicious lunch.
