2012 Yonkers OVBS held on August 3rd to 4th, 2012
For the first time, five churches in Yonkers area NY held a combined Sunday School OVBS and were able to truly exemplify this year’s OVBS theme “We are ONE in Christ.” OVBS was held August 3- 4, 2012 at St. Thomas Orthodox Church 2 Riverview Place Yonkers, New York.
About 100 Sunday School students participated, with classes ranging from the youngest Prekindergarten, to Seniors in 12th grade. Each day started with Morning Prayer, followed by song practice, arts and crafts, lessons, Bible games, lunch, and snack time. Volunteers and teachers from each of the parishes helped divide the responsibilities throughout the day. The OVBS was also blessed with the presence of Rev. Fr. Gregory Varghese (OVBS Director) , Rev. Dn. Geevarghese (Abu) Koshy, and Ceena Varghese as guest speakers.Very Rev. Fr. Cherian Neelankal Chor Episcopos gave the inagural speach and took the senior classes on the first day.
Seven young leaders stepped up to be coordinators from four sister parishes and worked together as a team to organize OVBS. Coordinators were Rence Philip, Sibu Puthenveettil, Reshma Jacob, Dhanya Kainathara, Tina Thomas, Justin John, and Bethsy Jacob.
This year’s OVBS showed its leaders and participants the significance and impact of fellowship amongst sister churches. This was a great opportunity for Sunday school students and young leaders from MGOCSM and FOCUS to work together, create new bonds, and rekindle old friendships by aiming towards a common mission. By the grace and blessings of God Almighty, OVBS was a great success and a real blessing for the participating parishes.
Participating parishes included the following:
