Metropolitan to lead WCC delegation
Final preparations are underway for the 10th Assembly of the World Council of Churches which will take place from October 30th to November 8th, 2013. The Assembly which will take place in Busan, Republic of Korea, will be reflecting on theme: “God of life, lead us to justice and peace.”
Our Diocesan Metropolitan, His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos, will lead the delegation representing the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church at the assembly. Ms. Ceena Varghese, a member and active lay leader of the Northeast American Diocese, will also be part of the delegation.
Other distinguished members of the delegation that will be representing the Malankara Church include Rev. Fr. Dr. K. M. George, Rev. Fr. John Thomas Karingattil, Rev. Fr. Abraham Thomas, Dr. Saramma Varghese, Mrs. Elizabeth Joy, Mr. Anish John, and Ms. Lijin Raju.
The World Council of Churches (WCC) brings together churches, denominations and church fellowships in more than 110 countries and territories throughout the world, representing over 500 million Christians and including most of the world's Orthodox churches, scores of Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist and Reformed churches, as well as many United and Independent churches.
While the bulk of the WCC's founding churches were European and North American, today most member churches are in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East and the Pacific.
