2010 Family & Youth Conference of the Northeast American Diocese
The annual Family & Youth Conference of the Northeast American Diocese will be held at the University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware, from Wednesday, July 14th to Saturday July 17th. The theme for this year's conference is “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
The keynote speaker for the adults of this year's conference will be His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, Diocesan Metropolitan of the Calcutta Diocese.
All clergy and faithful of our diocese are encouraged to attend this year's well anticipated conference.
About the Main Speaker: His Grace Metropolitan Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius
Metropolitan Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius was born on June 15, 1956, as the son of Mr. T. V. Mathai & Mrs. Aleyamma Mathai in Valanjavattom, Thiruvalla.
His Grace hails from St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Valanjavattom of Niranam Diocese and was a devoted monk of Mount Tabor Monastery, Pathanapuram. Thirumeni is a acclaimed academician with M. Phil, Ph. D degrees from the University of Kerala and a Bachers of Divinity from the University of Serampore. The Metropolitan was ordained to the Holy Diaconate in July of 1980, nine years after joining the monastic community of Mount Tabor, and later was ordained to the priesthood in December of 1985.
His Grace had the distinction of being trained in 'Christian Leadership' from the Haggai International Institute, Singapore in 2005. Prior to his consecration to the Holy Episcopacy, Thirumeni was teaching at St. Stephen's College, Pathanapuram in the department of zoology and later became the director of research for this very same department.
In 2003, His Grace received the 'Man of the Year' award from the American Biographical Institute, in 2003 and in 2008 was awarded the St. Berchman's Award as the 'Best University Teacher'. After being elected to be elevated to the ranks of the episcopate at the Malankara Association in Pampukuda in 2008, His Grace, along with four other bishops candidates were tonsured as 'rembans' or monks in Parumala Church and was later consecrated as Metropolitan in Puthupally.
Since his consecration, His Grace has been faithfully shepherding the Diocese of Calcutta. The Northeast American Diocese eagerly awaits to be inspired from a celebrated educator and prayerful archshepherd, at the 2010 Family & Youth Conference.
