Great Lent Prayer Books
The English Great Lent Prayers is a compilation of prayers from the West Syriac Liturgical Tradition, such as the Shimo Namaskaram, and certain Lenten prayers of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, as translated by His Grace Mathews Mar Barnabas, former Diocesan Metropolitan of the Northeast American Diocese.
We encourage the members of our Diocese, especially the faithful who cannot read Malayalam, to use these prayers, during this Holy Fast, till the Church translates the ‘Book of Prayers of the Great & Holy Lent’ from Syriac to English.
This book has been compiled and formatted by the seminarians of our Church, studying at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, South Canaan, Pennsylvania.
This book is by no means an official translation of our Church, but a temporary aide for our faithful.
Let us earnestly pray for the Liturgical Translation Committee of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, who are tirelessly working to translate the vast treasure of our West Syriac Liturgical tradition, into English.
For those of our faithful who know Malayalam, please make use of the Great Lent prayers in Malayalam available on this website (courtesy of ICON)
Have a blessed fast!
