2014 Family and Youth Conference
The Northeast American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church will host its
2014 Family and Youth Conference from Wednesday, July 16 to Saturday, July 19 at the
Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. A preparatory
meeting presided over by the Diocesan Metropolitan, His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos, was
held at the Muttontown Diocesan Center. The meeting was well attended by Malankara
Association Managing Committee members, Conference Committee members, parish Vicars
and Deacons. In the opening remarks, the Metropolitan announced the appointments of Rev. Fr. Mathew (Sujit) Thomas as the Conference Coordinator, Dr. Philip George as the General Secretary
and Mr. Thomas George as the Treasurer. Thanking everyone for contributing to the success of
the 2013 conference, Rev. Fr. Mathew (Sujit) Thomas requested the continued cooperation for the
success of the 2014 conference. He added that the venue for the 2014 conference has better
facilities than those in previous years. Dr. Philip George submitted his own report, giving a
bird’s-eye view of the facilities for the 2014 conference. Mr. Thomas George presented the
financial report announcing a balance of $13, 000 and detailing the transactions of $170, 000
for the 2013 conference. It was unanimously decided to include in the itinerary of the
participants, if they choose, the famous ‘Moses’ show at the Sight and Sound Theatre close to
the conference venue. Of the 250 rooms available at the Resort, 115 rooms have already been
blocked for prospective participants. Every effort will be made to keep the registration fee as
low as possible in order to attract more participants. The Diocesan Metropolitan and the
Conference Committee are on the lookout for Biblical scholars and eminent speakers as
keynote speakers for adult and youth sessions. In addition to the several kick offs planned to be
staged at different occasions in the Diocese, the conference committee will also undertake
parish visits to propagate the Conference. Online registration for the conference without extra
costs will be an added attraction. It was also decided to induct committee members of spiritual
organizations such as Marth Mariam Samajam and MGOCSM into the conference committees.
The following committees were constituted for effectively managing the conference with a
decision to induct more members should there be a need to do so.
