New Jersey/Staten Island Area Marth Mariam Samajam Community Outreach
New Jersey/Staten Island Area Marth Mariam Samajam of our Diocese
decided to serve the community to bring forth the good message of
caring and sharing for the needy and less fortunate. This event
successful community event took place at a community food bank located
at Hillside, New Jersey on August 13th 2016.
The MMVS has been doing the voluntary work at this community for the
past four years. Under the leadership of our Diocesan Metropolitan,
His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos, our Marth Mariam Samajam decided
to do the charity and volunteering efforts to serve the local
community. The efforts were coordinated by Rev. Fr. T. A. Thomas, MMVS
Vice president, Mrs. Santha Varghese, MMVS General Secretary and Dr.
Ammukutty Paulose, MMVS charity coordinator, along with Mrs. Soffy
Vilson the New Jersey/Staten Island Area MMVS coordinator and Mrs. Ani
Ninan the area representative.
In spite of the scorching heat, this year’s event was attended by many
of our MMVS members, along with youth and other adults from our
parishes in the New Jersey/Staten Island area. Rev. Fr. Sunny Joseph,
Vicar of St. Mary's Orthodox Church of Linden, New Jersey opened the
community event with prayer.
More than 50 members participated in the outreach program as they
volunteered in organizing, sorting, arranging and packing the food
items that are supplied to the poor and the needy. St. George Church
of Staten Island, New York, St. Stephens Church of Midland Park, New
Jersey, St. Gregorios Church of Clifton, NJ, and St Mary's Church of
Linden, NJ donated a large quantity of nonperishable food items to the
community food bank.
The hard work of Mrs. Jayamol Das, MMVS Secretary, Mrs. Shobha Jacob,
MMVS Secretary of St. Mary’s Church, Linden, NJ, Mrs. Suja Jose, MMVS
secretary of St. George Church, Staten Island, NY, Mrs. Kochanamma
George, MMVS representative of St. Gregorios Church, Clifton, NJ and
Mrs. Shiny Raju, Diocesan Parents Couple Coordinator are to be
recognized for encouraging participation to attend the community
outreach program. Special thanks to each participant who took their
time and effort in joining this year’s event and making it a blessing.
