Statement by His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos, Metropolitan of the Northeast American Diocese following the attack on two Coptic Orthodox Churches in Egypt
The joy the Church receives from the Feast of our Lord’s entry into Jerusalem, was disturbed by the violent bombing and attack upon our sister church, the Coptic Orthodox Church. We are pained knowing many lives were torn apart by the senseless killing and injury of innocent lives seeking to commune with, and celebrate the Victor over Death - Jesus Christ.
We express our solidarity with our sister church, during this time of sorrow and grief. Let us continue to look for the great comfort and joy of the resurrection of our Lord, for God shall arise and His enemies be scattered.
As our brother in Christ, His Grace Bishop David, of the The Coptic Orthodox Diocese of New York & New England, reminds us, although the Church may be persecuted by evil powers, let us hold onto the hope “the powers of death shall not prevail” over the Church.
