Today’s verdict echoes the words of the Prophet Amos: “let justice run swiftly as does water from the mountain, and let righteousness be as a stream that cannot be crossed” (Amos 5:24). There is joy, but also great sorrow that an innocent life had to be lost for a voice to be given to such injustices in our society. We are called as Christians to continue to pray, and act when such injustice occurs in our society. We are also called to remember our law enforcement officials are not our enemy. They are our partners in eradicating the division in our community, to ensure truth and justice prevails.
In this sacred season where we celebrate the Risen Messiah Who heals the brokenness of man, let us be vehicles of healing, forgiveness and love during these times. Together, we must seek to build relationships of trust to make us “one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
