The Seventy Two Evangelists are those whom the Lord chose in addition to the Twelve Apostles and sent forth to assist in the work of preaching. Over time, the Twelve added others to their number, who were sent out with the original Seventy Two to preach the gospel. In Luke 10:1 we read “After his the Lord chose another seventy two men (including Mark and Luke) and sent them out 2 by 2, to go ahead of him to every town and place where he himself was about to go”.
