The Northeast American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church joyfully congratulates three graduates who have successfully completed their Master of Divinity studies, as well as the Rev. Fr. Boby Varghese on the completion of his doctoral studies.
Our Diocese proudly recognizes:
- Rev. Dn. Mathew Jacob — Master of Divinity graduate from St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary
- Rev. Dn. Joseph (Akin) Sunny — Master of Divinity graduate from St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary
- Rev. Dn. Kuriakose (Joel) Kurian — Master of Divinity graduate from St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary
The Diocese also rejoices in the academic achievement of Rev. Fr. Boby Varghese, Vicar of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, Fishkill, NY, who successfully defended his dissertation, “Jacob of Serugh's Homily on the Holy Eucharist: Critical Edition and Translation along with a Comparison with Ephrem's Eucharistic Exegesis,” and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from The Catholic University of America in April 2026.
These accomplishments reflect not only academic excellence, but also a deep commitment to the life of the Church, theological formation, and faithful service to Christ and His people. Through years of prayer, study, ministry, and spiritual discipline, these clergy have offered themselves for the strengthening of Orthodox witness and ministry in our Diocese.
Metropolitan Zachariah Mar Nicholovos extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and Fr. Boby Varghese, expressing gratitude for their dedication and perseverance. Thirumeni noted that the Diocese is blessed by the emergence of devoted clergy who continue to pursue theological learning while remaining rooted in the spiritual and liturgical life of the Church.
On behalf of our Diocese, our Metropolitan extended his appreciation to the faculty, spiritual fathers, and academic communities of St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary, St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary, and The Catholic University of America for their role in shaping and supporting these students and scholars.
The faithful of the Diocese are requested to keep these clergy in their prayers as they continue their ministries and service to the Church.
