The Northeast American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church has begun an initiative to assess the need for a ministry dedicated to supporting the faithful with special needs and their families.
The Church should ensure that every faithful member is welcomed, valued, and fully integrated into the life of the parish. To better understand the needs that may exist, a diocesan-wide survey has been launched to better understand the experiences, challenges, and needs of faithful with special needs, as well as parents and caregivers. Rev. Fr. Laby George will be assisting in the gathering of this information. The data collected will help explore the possibility of developing a ministry dedicated to supporting our differently abled faithful, and their families.

“Our Church is called to be a place where every person encounters the love of Christ and experiences a true sense of belonging,” said Metropolitan Zachariah Mar Nicholovos. “As we seek to strengthen our ministries and care for all members of our diocese, it is important that we listen to the experiences of those with special needs and their loved ones. This survey will help us understand how we can better serve them and ensure that our parishes continue to be welcoming communities for all.”
The Diocese encourages all families who have members with special needs, as well as individuals with special needs themselves, to participate in the survey and share their experiences. Clergy and parish leaders have also been asked to promote the survey within their communities.
The initiative reflects the Diocese’s ongoing commitment to addressing the spiritual, emotional, and pastoral needs of its faithful. With the feedback received, diocesan leadership hopes to identify opportunities to provide meaningful support, resources, fellowship, and pastoral care for individuals with special needs and their families.
Faithful are invited to complete the survey using the link provided by the Vicar of their parish.
