KOTTAYAM, INDIA — September 10, 2026: The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church has announced that, God willing, the episcopal consecration of the four newly elected Metropolitan-designates will take place on Thursday, February 4, 2027, at Mar Elia Chapel, Mount Horeb Ashram, Sasthamkotta, Kerala.
The decision was taken by the Holy Episcopal Synod of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, which convened today on September 10, 2026.
The four clergy elected to the high priesthood are:
- Rev. Fr. Eldos A. A.
- Rev. Fr. Samji T. George
- Rev. Fr. Shibu Venad Mathai
- Rev. Fr. Thomas Paul Remban
They were elected by the Malankara Syrian Christian Association, which convened at Mulamthuruthy on August 27, 2026, to serve the Church in the sacred office of Metropolitan.
As part of the spiritual and canonical preparation for the episcopal consecration, the three priests-elect will be tonsured to the monastic rank (Ramban) on October 27, 2026, at Parumala Seminary.
The details were announced by His Eminence Dr. Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos Metropolitan, Secretary of the Holy Episcopal Synod.
The forthcoming consecration marks a significant moment in the life and ministry of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. Through prayer and the laying on of hands, the newly elected shepherds will be entrusted with the apostolic ministry of the episcopate and called to serve the Church in faithfulness to the Gospel, the Holy Tradition, and the pastoral mission entrusted to them.
The faithful of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church throughout India and across the world are called to uphold these four priests in prayer as they prepare for this sacred responsibility.
